We all have that one garment in our closet—the shirt that fits perfectly or the pants that are no longer made. Why not learn to clone them?

From May 31 – June 6, I’m teaching a week-long intensive, The Art of Patternmaking, at the John C. Campbell Folk School. We start with a simple T-shirt to learn the foundations. It’s low stakes and really prepares you to tackle more complex garments like tailored shirts and pants. Because this is a full-week course (unlike the shorter weekend workshop), we have the luxury of time to dive deep into muslin testing and working out any tricky details or complex seaming. You’ll leave not just with a pattern to sew your favorite garment but with the skills to recreate more.

Spaces are limited, and I won’t be teaching this again until 2027! Spend a week with me in the mountains on the beautiful and relaxing campus of the Folk School and master the art of garment cloning.

Some Details:

  • You must have garment construction experience
  • Everyone learns the concept using a basic T-shirt and a classic woven button front shirt.
  • After learning the principles, garment(s) of your choice can be cloned.
  • The week-long class provides time to sew a muslin if you desire. Sewing machines are in the studio or bring your own. You can also use all your class time drafting/cloning.
  • The Folkschool serves all meals – no cooking or cleaning for you 😉
