Some days are easy to get things done and some days it takes all the discipline I can conjure up to even get one thing checked off my list. Today I settle back into The Daily Sew after three weeks of holiday. It’s taking a lot of will power to sit at the computer despite prepping myself mentally the past few days for the return to work. But even without a vacation I have random days when motivation is hard to find.
I have come to rely on a few motivational tricks I’ve learned and adopted. This is my favorite. I use it when I need to push through a task which suddenly calls for extra brain power, or if it’s three pm, or if I just need a little extra courage to expand my comfort zone.
It’s easy too, just strike a power pose. Stand like Superman or like Wonder Woman (Linda Carter style) with your feet slightly apart, hands on your hips, chest open and chin proud. You know that body language effects how people perceive you but did you also know it changes how you feel about yourself? Stand in your power pose for two minutes and feel the confidence charging through your body. You can do it! Whatever needs to be done. Remember the saying, “Fake it till you make it”? This is it, baby. The first step is the hardest. A power pose can help you take that first step and then it’s all downhill from there.
