Trying my best to be efficient, by all means, but no short cuts. And now I sound like a complete hypocrite by challenging myself to get this coat done in 17 days (which would be plenty of time if I didn’t also work a full time job).

Well, I will always choose to sew it right over being quick. So, it sounds hypocritical but in practice it won’t be.

Last year I shopped for a winter coat but just couldn’t find anything I loved (I live in a small-ish market so choices here are not as many). I needed a short coat so I found three patterns I liked (all Burda, imagine that) and finally choose the more classic, 7423.

Just two weeks ago I found the wool at our local fine garment fabric store, Waechter’s (if you’re ever visiting Asheville you need to stop by Waechter’s). They were having a sale and so I splurged on the fabric I loved, a dark blue, Italian wool blended with Alpaca with an almost fake fur look due to the deep pile.

It took me a week to finish up a different project but now I’m free to start on this project and excited to do so. I’m hoping to have it done in just over two weeks but I can tell already it’s going to be tough to stick to my ambitious plan. Not because I’m a slacker (not always) but because I chose the daily goals with optimism and you never know what you may run into.

I will keep you posted on what I learn along the way and hopefully it will all be good.

I always say if I’m going to take the time to make a garment then I’m going to take the time to make it right.
